The Wines Team Guide: Our Perfect Day in Sag Harbor

If you come out to the Hamptons for a day trip in the summer and are not quite sure yet what all to do, this post might offer some inspiration. We guarantee what you are about to read is better than any travel guide. The Wines family has lived on the East End of Long Island since the 1600s and is fortunate to know all the best spots! We are starting off our new series with Sag Harbor, but very soon we will feature other parts of the Hamptons as well. Stay tuned!

8:00am – Head over to Main Street, grab a drink and light bite at SagTown Coffee, and sit outside on their sun-drenched patio. It’s a great spot to relax and get your day started.

10:00am – Go visit the Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife Refuge located a short distance outside of Sag Harbor Village. If you like birds and chipmunks as much as we do, then don’t forget to bring some sunflower seeds. You will certainly make a whole bunch of new friends! Be sure to walk all the way down to the water at “Jessup Neck” for some exclusive privacy. Feel free to go for a swim as the bay will be nice and warm in the summer. On a clear day, you will get a great view over Peconic Bay looking towards the North Fork.

12:00pm – When you’re ready for a quick lunch break, stop atThe Dock House. This popular local eatery is located at the end of Main Street right on Long Wharf and offers fresh seafood with lovely views of the marina. If you are in the mood to explore a little more, just order your food to go and walk over to Marine Park. Here you will find benches and tables offering the chance to sit down and watch boats as they come into the harbor.

2:00pm – Sag Harbor Village has a variety of cute little boutique shops and interesting architectural buildings. While you are out for a stroll, make sure you swing by Big Olaf’s for some delicious ice cream. We simply cannot resist their homemade waffle cones, which fill the air with a delightful aroma out to the street. They have a huge variety of flavors and toppings that will add the perfect sweetness to your day.

4:00pm – One of our favorite spots in Sag Harbor is Baron’s Cove. Besides offering high quality lodging and an upscale restaurant that overlooks Sag Harbor Cove, they also have a very nice lounge area that invites you to grab an appetizer or a drink and sit in one of their rocking chairs on the outdoor deck. It’s the perfect place to gather and relax! It’s worth mentioning that if you fall in love with the view at Baron’s Cove, you should check out the waterfront condominium units right next door at Harbor’s Edge. We’ve heard they only have three new units left…

6:00pm – Sag Harbor has plenty of exclusive restaurants offering fine dining and it’s all very conveniently located on or near Main Street. We absolutely love the Japanese restaurant Sen. You can watch them prepare your food in the middle of the restaurant and boy they do know their business. They make the best sushi rolls, hands down!

7.30pm – The end of this perfect summer day in Sag Harbor will take us back to the water. We love Long Beach for its convenient parking arrangement and, of course, the incredible sunset views. The further north you park the more of a view you will get as the sun goes down. So, bring your beach chair and get yourself comfortable!

Afterwards, you can wander back to Sag Harbor’s Main Street to soak in the vibrant, yet small village feel at night. We hope you will make great memories in this charming water-front village in the heart of the Hamptons.
